Sexualization

This book examines the social and cultural changes which have been characterized as ‘pornographication’, ‘pornification’, ‘sexualization’, or the ‘mainstreaming of sex’ - all ways of trying to describe the historical shifts in which sex has become as an important form of leisure and consumption, mediated forms of sex have become common, and technology has become part of people’s sex lives.

The essays in the book cover new forms of pornography, porn fiction, ‘extreme’ porn, shifting public responses to porn, representations of autoeroticism, sex and advertising, sex advice, young people and sex media, women’s relationships with sexually explicit media, pole dancing as a leisure pursuit, and feminist responses to sex media.
